Amavasya is a Sanskrit word meaning dark moon lunar phase. A dark or a non-moon day in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September) is known as Bhadra Amavasya. Bhadra Amavasya according to Hindu calendar, is on 1 September 2016. This day is celebrated differently over the different states of India. In Tamil Nadu, this day is known as Avani Amavasya. This day holds a great significance for the Marwari community, they call this day as Bhado Amavasya or Bhadi Amavasya. They believe that on this day, everyone should get rid of malicious feelings and past misdeeds instead start a new life with optimism and love for all. Hindus observe fast on this day in order to gain peace and harmony and some others visit Ganga river to pray for the calmness of their loved ones’ souls who are no longer. Many people perform pooja at their place or temple to calm down the souls of their beloved ones as this day is remarkable to end the negative energies.

A huge festival is held in the Shree Jhunjhunu Dham, Birmitrapur in the honour of Rani Sati Dadi ji,  remembered as the symbol of bravery as she showed utmost courage and dedication by sacrificing herself on the funeral pyre of her husband.
